May 21st Services - Pastor's Notes
Theme is Holiness "Be holy because God is holy."
And that theme will continue for the next few weeks.
     Holiness has two primary meanings:

     1) to be set apart for God's use... like the sanctuary is holy,
communion bread is holy, (some of) our time and money can be

     2) to be pure. God is always pure, right, righteous. This second
definition is our aim for growing into holiness - purity and
     godliness. Also called sanctification.
Although we can never attain the level of purity God has, we are
still called to imitate God and to live to higher standards. This is not
 an effort that takes our
own energy because the Holy Spirit wants to
come and assist us, direct us, lead us, control us.
We are already accepted as holy in God's sight even though we
have not perfected its use in our lives.
For instance, when I got married, I got the title 'husband,'
although I still had much to do, learn, and grow as a husband.
(karen says after 29 years of marriage, my training as a husband is
 nearly 50% complete!).
When I accepted Christ as my Savior, likewise, my status
changed, but I still had much growing to do to resemble Jesus in
thought, word, and deed. My status changed (it was imputed), then
the growing started (God imparts the growth).
